Larger Metro PCS Area in Florida

2008 is going to be a huge year for Metro PCS -- they are expanding their cellular service areas and network more than any other company at this point. Obviously this goes hand in hand with the popularity of their cellphone service and their unlimited features.

Their expansion plans for the Florida area are already happening -- they just added service in Daytona Beach, Melbourne, and Ocala. Plans for the 2nd quarter, between march and july, include expansion to the college towns of Jacksonville, Gainesville, and St Augustine. Metro PCS obviously sees the college students as one of their largest customer groups, therefor, targetting their areas. Smart business Metro!

On a side note, Verizon Wireless has just released an unlimited minutes plan for $99.99 per month. They have obviously noticed the huge piece of the cellular service market that Metro PCS is hogging -- and are now trying to get a piece of the action. Honestly, I couldn't blame them. As most of you know, at this point Verizons network is much larger, it might be worth forking out extra $50 monthly to Verizon for people who spend a lot of time on the road.

Top 3 Metro PCS Cell Phones

Motorola RAZR V3
Overall, at this point, the RAZR is by far the most popular phone in the country. There is good reason for this -- it proven to be the most reliable Metro PCS cell phone available. It has a solid spec sheet: 1.3-megapixel camera, great battery life, Bluetooth, and its also very compact.

Motorola SLVR L7c
In a nutshell this Metro PCS Phone is well above average: fantastic battery life; light weight, availability for international roaming, MicroSD memory slot, Streaming TV (depends on your plan) and much more. The only downfall is that its a VGA only cellphone.

Motorola krzr k1m
The newer version of the infamous Metro PCS Motorola RAZR, the KRZR k1m has been getting mediocre reviews. The main cons are that the camera is top quality as well as the speaker phone not being very loud. Other than that, this is another overall above average Metro PCS phone, just seems to get more publicity and advertising than the other cellphones.

Paying your Metro PCS bill online

The best way, by far, is to pay your Metro pcs bill online -- there is no fee or extra charge to do this. Many of the other methods (for example, paying by phone) cost extra... as much as $3.00 just to pay your bill.

Click here to go directly to the Metro PCS online payment system. Just follow the steps to identify your account and pay the bill. You might want to add that site to your favorites for easy reference in the future.

Metro PCS offers TravelTalk

Metro PCS, which have built their business on customers who stay within the confines of one local area, have finally set their subscribers loose. In April they introduced TravelTalk, an add-on to its plans which allows subscribers to roam in any US metro area. If the subscriber travels to another Metro PCS city, there is no additional charge for the calls, otherwise calls cost between 49 and 79 cents per minute. A message displayed on the phone's screen will alert users to the cost of calls when they are roaming. Metro PCS also announced it has just launched service in Detroit, their 8th area.

I believe they "borrow" other carriers networks while in areas that they don't actually own -- for example using Verizons towers in Wisconsin, etc. If anybody else knows otherwise please drop a comment.

Free Metro PCS Ringtones

Finding Metro PCS ringtones has never really been easy. Being that they are a pretty young company, there aren't very many ringtone websites that supply Metro PCS ringtones.

When it comes to ringtones, though, most of the popular Metro PCS cellphones are completely customizable. The majority of their phones come with either datacable or blue tooth capability and with the Metro PCS Nokia phones you can even make your own ringtones with the included "ringtone maker." Your other option is using the internet or even your phone (if it's web enabled) to locate and download Metro PCS ringtones on the web.

The actual free ringtones websites usually don't get as much advertising as they should because other companies are too busy advertising their monthly subscription metro pcs ringtones. I've included a few of the popular sites which you can use to download completely free metro pcs ringtones.

www.myxertones.com -- one of the more popular metro pcs ringtone sites. You can upload your mp3 songs onto their website which will then cut the song down and convert it into a free ringtone.

www.mobile17.com -- They are all about free cellphone content. They allow you to use your own music, photos, and even animations to convert for your metro pcs cellphone. They are pretty cool, definitely recommend you check them out.

MetroPCS buys areas from Cingular Wireless

Cell-phone service provider MetroPCS can finally do business in its hometown. On Monday, the Dallas-based company agreed to pay $230 million for Cingular Wireless spectrum, the lifeblood of wireless services. That price tag covered spectrum in both Dallas and Detroit. A MetroPCS representative confirmed the carrier's plans to do business in the two markets but wouldn't comment further. The carrier has more than a million subscribers in parts of Florida, Northern California and Georgia.

Recently, Cingular Wireless struck a deal to sell some assets to telephone operator Alltel for $170 million in cash. The sale satisfies requirements that the Justice Department and Federal Communications Commission set in order for Cingular Wireless to buy AT&T Wireless. At 46 million subscribers, the combined entity surpasses Verizon Wireless as the largest U.S. carrier.

The Hot k1m KRZR for Metro PCS!

My girlfriend just got the new k1m krzr from Metro. She's loving the features but the buttons are a little small. I still prefer the RAZR but we'll see how the new KRZR's perform over time. Plus, there's no accessories for all of the models - SUCKS!

Anybody else got a Metro PCS k1m yet?

Message Metro PCS Send Text, Website for Texting?

Has anyone found a website for sending text messages to Metro PCS phones yet? I'm hoping that somebody has. I was thinking about actually developing one myself - no matter what model phone you would be able to send text messages for free. I was also thinking about having a 100% free ringtone section.

What genres of music ringtones would be best? I personally love rap and alternative rock. A lot of my friends have country song ringtones though! Leave me a comment and let me know what you think would be best.

Krazr Metro PCS - Hottest Metro Phone Yet!

Yes! I'm just as excited as all of you. I've been waiting for them to release the new Krazr for Metro PCS... I'm a little hesitant in switching over from my good old Razr yet though since it is such a new model. We'll see, I may wait for them to get all of the bugs out. For now - I'm loving my ringtone collection on my RAZR! The speaker phone rocks and my blue tooth works perfectly.

Metro PCS Wants You to Have Ringtones

Metro PCS is quite possibly the easiest service for obtaining ringtones - most people don't know how though. They are actually eager to help their customers with them because THEY do make money out of the deals. Check out their official website for more free ringtone information.

MetroPCS also has some of the hottest ringtones around for all of their models including both popular brand phones like Motorola and the new brands that they are bringing in. I'm excited for the work they plan to do on expanding the tones offered and music ringtones available to their customers.

Sarasota MetroPCS Stores?

They are slowly spreading. I've noticed them all the way down Tamiami Trail and also US 301 (Washington.) I think theres going to be more MetroPCS stores in our area than any other carrier.

I think this is basically because they are slowly taking over our market.... with Unlimited minutes, who wouldn't want to use them? I know several people that have even paid cancellation on Verizon and Cingular to be able to switch.

All my friends are on MetroPCS

It's amazing how a service like this spreads. I would say, about 60% of my friends has now become a loyal metroPCS customer. It shows you how they are taking over the market, at least, down here in Florida. I'd love to see what their predictions are for company growth by the year 2010.

I wonder if MetroPCS will continue their "unlimited" plan into the future? 5 years, 10 years? Drop me a comment and let me know what you think.

Free Ringtones on Metro PCS

Metro PCS is a popular cellphone service that is known for being a carrier for subscribers roaming in a limited area. Now that they have introduced Travel Talk, an package add on to its plans that allows subscribers to roam in any US metro area. If the subscriber travels to another Metro PCS city, there is no additional charge for the calls at all. Outside of the Metro PCS cities calls usually cost between 49 and 79 cents per minute. Metro PCS has a relatively limited service area but are expanding it rapidly.

Frequently, the Metro PCS has started sending free ringtone code numbers to their subscribers via text messages. They are trying to break the ringtone provider barrier. As most people know, other cellphone providers charge at least $1.00 per ringtone. Completely free metro pcs are available you just have to do a little more searching for them. I'll be posting some of the free ringtone sites in the next few weeks.

A Million in Two: MetroPCS Celebrates Second Anniversary

Consumers Take Advantage of Unbeatable Service Plans That Take the Worry Out Of Wireless; Subscribers With Longest, Uninterrupted Usage Receive a Free Year Of MetroPCS Service

Dallas, TX – January 21, 2004 -- MetroPCS announces today that this week marks its two-year anniversary of launching service and the sign-up of its one millionth customer. MetroPCS provides unlimited anytime local and long distance wireless service for one flat monthly rate with no contract in metropolitan markets including Atlanta, Miami, San Francisco and Sacramento. The company's success in attracting customers with its offer is attributed to its' philosophy of providing innovative, convenient and hassle-free wireless service.

MetroPCS' customer growth, which is a direct result of its unlimited calling plans, follows a trend of consumers spending more time on their wireless phones. According to a recent survey by Yankee Group, wireless subscribers in the U.S. now spend more minutes talking on their cell phones than they do on traditional landline phones. MetroPCS service plans start at $35 per month for unlimited, anytime local calling and for $40 per month customers also enjoy unlimited, anytime domestic long distance service. MetroPCS service requires no contract and no credit check.

"We give our customers what they want, when they want it -- a flat rate plan with unlimited, anytime use that allows them to pay by the month, not by the minute," said Roger Linquist, founder and chief executive officer of MetroPCS. "We allow people to call whenever they want and talk as long as they want, without worrying about extra charges on their bill. And if that weren't important to consumers, we wouldn't be celebrating our one millionth sign-up in only 24 months."

To thank its loyal customers, MetroPCS is giving a free year of service to one subscriber in each of its markets with the longest, uninterrupted service. This offer further demonstrates MetroPCS' philosophy of giving consumers what they want and taking the worry out of wireless.

MetroPCS built its own 3G network from the ground up, completing the build-out in 2002 utilizing Lucent Technologies equipment. The all-digital network utilizes third generation infrastructure and handsets.

"We've built a network based on some of the most innovative technology available," added Linquist. "This means that MetroPCS will be able to continue providing the type of unlimited service consumers have come to demand for many years to come."

How MetroPCS cellphone plans work.

Unlike most US cellular service providers, MetroPCS uses a flat rate billing method, offering unlimited local calling plans without any contracts running between $30-$35 per month before taxes and depending on optional features, as well as unlimited local and long distance plans for $40-$45 per month. Advanced plans also offer unlimited SMS/MMS. The company offers phones manufactured by Nokia, Samsung, Kyocera, and others. The phones come preloaded with portals to their shop that offers downloadable content, such as games, ringtones, wallpapers, etc. New phones have limited features requiring the owner to download pay-per-use customizations. Prices for downloadable content range from free up to $7.99 per month.

The cons, however, of the lower prices for MetroPCS calling plans and the lack of contracts are that they must charge at or near full price for their phones to make up for the lack of required commitments (though it may be possible to find used phones through community bulletin boards such as Craigslist. In contrast, most other service providers often subsidize the cost of their phones (many high-end phones can be had for $100 or less) by requiring 1 or 2 year contracts with comparably more expensive plans. The list of MetroPCS supported phones is also smaller when compared to other providers. Also, when comparing MetroPCS to other carriers, one must consider that they only have free coverage in select metropolitan areas.

All about MetroPCS

MetroPCS is a cellular phone company that started in 1994. In 2002, service was launched in the Greater Miami/Ft. Lauderdale Area, Atlanta, and San Francisco/Sacramento areas. In 2005, service was launched in the greater Tampa Bay area. Service was launched in Detroit and Dallas (where the company is headquartered) in 2006. MetroPCS is currently extending its system into Southern California (the counties of Ventura, Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego). Their website currently states that they have over 2 million subscribers.

MetroPCS uses CDMA transmission technology pioneered by Qualcomm in the 1900 MHz band. Other wireless carriers using CDMA include Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel's PCS.
